Matt’s “Magnificent” Monday Blog

Nov 9th, 2009 | By Matt Presto | Category: Blogs

Matt PrestoMy name is Matt Presto (aka PA Contingent Matt, frequent “guest” on TDS Radio), and today I am debuting my new weekly blog, called Matt’s “Magnificent” Monday Blog. In this blog, I will be discussing the most interesting or noteworthy event of the past week in wrestling. I will have two categories in which I do this, which will be TNA and WWE. So now that you know what the plan is, let’s get the ball rolling.

TNA

This past week on Impact!, the show opened with Dixie Carter giving a non-kayfabe speech about how a few select wrestlers have been complaining about where creative was going and how their characters were being used. We also got to see another side of Dixie, a side that I have no words to describe. In my opinion, she basically told the talent that there were going to be changes, and if they didn’t believe in them or didn’t like them, then too bad. If they had a problem with that, then they could “find another place to work.” To me, the wrestlers of TNA have given more effort than their pay demands. For Dixie to come out and just criticize what they have done out of love for the business is wrong. As The Daily Suplex webmaster/host Brian Thomas suggested, maybe this speech will lead to Dixie having an on screen role as a heel. Even if this is true, I agree with Brian in the fact that this speech should not have been aired.

TNA Weekly Awards (3 Categories, with 1 being something the show shouldn’t be proud of)

Best Match- Styles vs. Daniels (Special Ref Samoa Joe)
Best Segment- Styles, Daniels and Joe
“Turn off the TV” Moment- Lashley vs. Homicide

WWE

This one is not so much a weekly topic, but I will go over it anyway for the sake of it being the first edition of the blog. Batista’s heel turn happened two weeks ago at Bragging Rights (which I attended). The turn should have happened long ago, but it was definitely unexpected prior to the match occurring. Before I say this, please know that I am no way near a fan of Batista, because I think his character had become as stale as year old potato chips. Anyway, I thought that the man pulled it off, and made it one of my favorite turns in recent memory. I believe that if WWE does it right (knock on wood) then Batista should be bearable to watch and lessen the flaws of SD, which aren’t that many. A program with Undertaker after Rey might very well happen, but I hope that Jericho develops a feud with Taker after Survivor Series. I believe that they would work interesting matches, even though the Deadman’s abilities are slowly fading.

WWE Weekly Awards

Best Match- The Miz vs Evan Bourne (Raw)
Best Segment- Taker and Jericho (SD)
“Turn off the TV” Moment- Raw’s Got Talent
