Matt’s “Magnificent” Monday Blog
Nov 16th, 2009 | By Matt Presto | Category: Blogs
Welcome to yet another edition of Matt’s Magnificent Blog! The past weekend in wrestling was a boring one concerning WWE, but TNA pulled out all the stops with Turning Point last night.
TNA
Turning Point featured a double main event, and both of the matches are being considered for match of the year. Recently, it has been a rare thing to see atleast one match that is memorable on a PPV card. This show went above and beyond from what I have read, and even though I didn’t purchase the PPV, I am dying to get my hands on the DVD which should come out in December. Anyway, there is something I want to discuss. That something is Kurt Angle. The man has simply laid it all on the line for TNA since he’s been there, and as you can tell from last night, even getting injured at the beginning of the match doesn’t hold him back from performing at a higher level that anyone in the industry. Kurt also suffered a concussion previously in a match against Samoa Joe, which he also continued on with. The man simply gets in done in the ring and is the best at making other talent look good in my eyes. Because of this, Wolfe (McGuinness) looked like a star and looked credible enough to beat Angle.
TNA Weekly Awards
Best Match- Angle vs Wolfe (Turning Point)
Best Segment- Angle Wolfe (Impact!)
“Turn off the TV” Moment- None (Slight exception could be Lethal vs Neidhart)
WWE
Kofi Kingston has been a ball of fire since dropping the Jamaican gimmick. Kingston has always been very entertaining to watch and is only getting better in the ring. What he has been missing though is great promo work. Over the past couple of weeks however, the latter no longer holds true. He really shined in the segment with Orton’s car, and looked like a believable main-eventer. WWE is pushing the guy to the stars and is giving him the opportunity to work with an experienced main-eventer and a reliable hand in Randy Orton. If WWE does it the right way, Kingston will be a success story in 2010 and could make a serious run at the WWE Title.
WWE Weekly Awards
Best Match- Undertaker vs Jericho (SD!)
Best Segment- Rey vs. Batista Contract Signing (SD!)
“Turn off the TV” Moment- Beth Phoenix vs. Local Jobber (SD!)
*SD does the clean sweep for WWE this week
And last but not least, this is a new part of my blog that I will be doing weekly. I will rank each brand according to how entertaining each show was each week.
Brand Power Rankings
1.WWE Smackdown!
2.TNA Impact!
3.WWE Raw
4.WWE Superstars
5.ECW
